Our dentists at North Park Dental Care in Toronto will provide a root canal if your tooth has undergone advanced damage. He will try to save your natural teeth, but sometimes tooth extractions are necessary.
Root Canals
When the pulp of your tooth is infected, inflamed, or is dead, we may recommend root canal therapy to treat your tooth. In order to try to save the tooth, our dentists must clean out the pulp and remove all bacteria and decay. The area is cleaned and the root of the tooth will be restored in order to keep the infection from coming back.
We normally recommend that all teeth that have had a root canal treatment should have a crown placed upon them as it will protect the tooth and prevent it from breaking.
Signs you need a root canal:
- Severe toothache
- Sensitivity to hot or cold food/beverages
- Abscess on the gums
- Tenderness and swelling
General Extractions
Your dentist may recommend removing a tooth if it is infected and damaging the surrounding bone or is causing you discomfort.
Our dentists will try to save your natural teeth, but this sometimes will be required based on your oral health situation.
Wisdom Teeth Extractions
Wisdom teeth are often removed if they are causing larger issues in your jaw, gums and/or teeth in the surrounding area.
Impacted wisdom teeth are unable to fully erupt which can lead to bacteria and food getting trapped. This can lead to decay, infection and pain.
